Radio Roseland

I spent the morning working in the Radio Roseland studio. I learnt the general running of the station and how students learn how to run the station for themselves. I was given a tutorial on how to produce a sweeper or jingle to advertise the radio station, I have attached a copy of this to my subject knowledge audit CD.
These are examples of students exam work for the Art GCSE Key stage 4. I was involved in assisting some students with special requirements, and in the planning and developing of concepts and ideas prior to the students exam.

These are some examples of the work that i have
been doing with Yr 8 Key stage 3 Art students.
We have been studying aboriginal art, techniques
and artists and students designed and created their
own pieces of aboriginal art using similar techniques,
colours and tools, such as withies and ash twigs to
paint with.

Examples of some year 7 Key stage 3, ceramic work that i have been helping with at school, this has really enabled me to learn about the medium and I am now confident taking these lessons myself and I have been extending my own knowledge of the subject and reading the complete potters guide and developing other techniques and processes to further my knowledge.

Sculpture & Carving

This is a wood carving of a face created as part of a project on masks for an evening art class. The mask was carved from a piece of oak and i had to use a chisel and a hammer to shape the main features of the face as the wood was so hard. Finer detail and finishing was created by scrapping the wood away with the chisel and also using sand paper to smooth areas.

GREEN SCREEN

We had a green screening workshop and worked with some students to create a science project. We recorded students performing their research in front of the green screen and then we added images to the green screen using the adobe program that matched the aspects of the students topics .

We were then able to try the technique ourselves and we choose to read a story. We set up the equipment and took turns to read sections of the story while filming in front of the green screen. We then added images from the story book at appropriate sections of the story .

Unfortunately we were limited in time and we were not able to complete all of the filming and editing so it is a basic version of the finished product. Given more time we would have edited the film properly and cut our all of our talking inbetween takes and spent more time getting the lighting and shooting perfect.

Still life paintings

These are still life paintings. The pictures were made using acrylic paints and brushes and layering of the colours over a period of time to help give the subject more depth and texture.

Painting & Printing

These are some paintings that I made during an art evening class. These have been created using acrylics and brushes and some screen printing either over the top of the painting or as part of the background layer of the paintings.  I have also used oil pastels over the top of the painting to add a different texture. Their is a mixture of techniques in the paintings from colour washing, block painting, fine detail brush work and printing to experiment with different tools, materials, colours and effects.

Observational drawings

My Year 9 GCSE Art group are preparing for their exams and this week we started to focus on observational drawings relating to their exam questions to help them finalise ideas.

Marine life is one of the exam question options and we set up a display of different fish for the students to observe and draw.

This is to help students get used to drawing marine life and also give them ideas. This lesson was in exam conditions so students also have an idea of how the exam will be and what they have to prepare for.

Here are some of the observational drawings that i did during this lesson using a graphite stick.

Subject Session - Photography

My subject session was focused on composition and perspective in photography. I gave each person a toy animal with a selection of headlines relating to the animal and each person had to take their own photograph of the animal to fit with the context of the headline.

Insecticide treated grass causes health problems for elephants.

Barmy weather means spring lambs are born in the deepest mid winter.

Zebra thrives in new habitat.

Pencil Drawings

Across all the year groups all students were set a task of drawing shoes. they could do it how ever they wanted and as many times as they wanted within the hour long class. The teacher used this as a way of establishing the grades of the stduents and assessing their progress and performance. This is the shoe that drew.

Tessellation patterns

In Art this week I learnt about Tessillation patterns we traced a pattern and then rotated our original pattern and traced it around the page to make a tessillated pattern. Here are some examples.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Here are some images that I took during my degree in Photo media & digital imaging. These are all studio based fashion and portrait images which is the area that I specialised in.
TEXTILES & COSTUME DESIGN
These are a small selection of fancy dress costumes I have made from scratch over the last year. The Sheep, mouse, smurf and Pocahontas costumes were all designed and made myself and the giraffe suit was from a pattern and the neck and head were improvised. I used a mixture of hand sewing and machine stitching to make the costumes and Velcro, poppers and zips for fasten the different costumes.
PAPIER MACHE
These are two mouse heads that I made out of papier mache for a fancy dress costume in January 2010. I moulded them around extra large round ballons and built up the papier mache over several days leaving to dry between to make them stronger and building up the extruding features like the noses. I then popped the ballons and cut an even hole to fit our heads through and then painted on the face details and glued on the foam noses and paper plate ears.
